Course Description (highlights) 
The course highlights key concepts and provide general information about distance mode of 
instruction to engender better understanding which will inform improvement in the practice of 
distance education in higher education. Examples of topics to be covered will include emerging web 
technologies as a distance learning tool, and strategies for developing distance learning content. 
 
Trainees will conduct a case study on distance learning modes being adopted in any one higher 
education institution in Ghana. The task will provide trainees opportunity to apply knowledge gained in 
exploring and discussing how effective and practicable open and distance education modes have been 
improving quality higher education as well as enumerating challenges faced in the implementation of 
open and distance learning strategies. Emphasis will be placed on teaching methods suitable for adult 
learners in the context of distance and open learning in higher institutions.
